SOLD Victorian Cameo Brooch

Description

Beautiful large hand carved shell cameo brooch dating from around 1870-1880. This is a particularly large cameo and has a medieval flavour to it, reminding me of  Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.

Set in Pinchbeck (a simulated gold and very sought after by collectors), there is some hand chased decoration to the frame.  The ring at the back of the setting would normally be for a safety chain but a bale could also be fitted and it could be worn as a pendant.

It measures 62 x 51mm and is in good condition.
