Description

A fantastic example of a late 18th century Black Dot Crystal pendant dating from around 1780 and of French origin. The centre panel is decorated in fine enamel and surrounded by differing sized black dot crystals, each one being individually cut by a professional lapidarist in the day. A black dot would have been painted on the flat underside of the crystal to give the impression of greater depth.

On the front of this silver set piece beneath the decorative plinth with tree and floral foliage, is a banner that reads A L’AMITIE that translates to FRIENDSHIP. There is a very small chip to the enamel on the bottom right hand corner but considering that this item is over 220 years old, the condition is exceptional.

Photographs of the back of the pendant indicates the precision and expertise of it’s manufacture. A small piece of chain has been added to the bale and the other end soldered to the back of the pendant. A masterpiece in my opinion.

This would make an incredible gift to someone that means a lot to you including yourself!
