A fantastic example of antique Japanese Satsuma ware, hand painted and depicting a Samurai Warrior.
The strength and power of the swordsman is so beautifully captured in detail on this piece. One of a kind as no two would be possible to replicate exactly.
You can see the textured paint work from the photos and the contrasting smooth features of the warrior’s face. The back of the plate is also painted with scroll work and floral design. Just wonderful!
This dates from around 1900-1910 and is in a perfect condition with no chips or cracks. There is a slight imperfection to the border where the glaze ran during firing and the gilding was touched up, but all original in the making of the plate.
Measures 43cm across.
Great item for collectors of Satsuma, unusual plates or anything warrior related.
