SOLD – Austro Hungarian Silver Gilt, Enamel & Paste Bracelet c1790-1800

Description

A beautiful and rare Austro Hungarian silver gilt and paste set bracelet with an original hand painted portrait of a young woman.

This piece dates from around 1790 – 1800 and is very typical of ‘jewelled’ items made during the existence of the Austro Hungarian Empire at this time.

The stones replicate rubies and emeralds and there is white enamel work around the green stones with very minor chipping to one section. The portrait may well have been specially commissioned for this piece.

As silver is relatively soft and due to its age and use, the chain does not stay in place once around the wrist. I feel sure that this could be remedied by a jeweller who repairs antique jewellery as it just needs tweaking to tighten the chain.

A wonderful addition to any genuine antique jewellery collector.
