Wonderful little Japanese marine ivory netsuke (net-ski), carved from walrus tusk.
Carved during the 19th century, this netsuke is of a mythical creature with small fangs, a disproportionately long, thick tail and striped markings to its body. It measures 24mm in height and the oval base measures 34mm x 28mm.
Rare and one of a kind, netsukes are highly collectable.
Unfortunately, one of his eyes are missing but this could quite easily be replaced with a small black piece of smoothed wood or resin.
