Description
A fascinating German silver bangle with 4 mementoes, very likely dating back to WW1.
There is some speculation over the exact origins of this item but an educated guess would indicate it to be from the First World War and was made as a keepsake. The coins and discs are primarily German with a silver Irish shamrock. There would have been 5 items but the centre one is missing unfortunately.
From left to right, a description of the discs and coins are of a cut-out soldier in uniform holding an object with writing surrounding him that says ”DIE MUSIK KOMMT”, meaning the music is coming. The second disc is a coin with the engraving ”Grofspapa” meaning grandfather and decorated with scroll work. What is very interesting is the obverse of the coin. It indicates to be pre 1918. It has the German eagle with the letters B B at the bottom. All I am able to find out about this is that it was possibly minted in Berlin.
The next item is a silver shamrock and the last is also a coin with a hand painted blue enamel poppy with green leaves. The wording on the outside of the coin reads ”.FRUENDSCHAFT & ERRINERUNG.SPRICHT”, meaning friendship, remembrance, speech. It’s as though this bangle tells a story that we can only speculate over.
The price field requires input but it’s quite impossible to price. We are open to fair offers, so please get in touch via the contact form if you’re interested.
